Editorial Policy

The principles that should guide fair, accurate and transparent journalism.

Publication note: This is a proposed editorial policy for review and approval by Free Media News before it is represented as the newsroom’s formally adopted policy.

1. Accuracy & Verification

News reports should be checked against reliable evidence. Significant factual claims should be corroborated where practical, particularly when they could affect a person’s reputation, health or safety.

2. Fairness & Right of Reply

Coverage should include relevant viewpoints and provide a reasonable opportunity to respond when serious allegations are made. An allegation must not be presented as an established fact.

3. Sources & Attribution

Sources should be identified wherever possible. Anonymous sources should be used only where there is a clear public-interest reason, and their information should be independently assessed.

4. News, Analysis & Opinion

Factual reporting should be distinguished from interpretation and opinion. Headlines, photographs and social posts should fairly reflect the substance of the underlying story.

5. Corrections & Updates

Material errors should be corrected promptly and clearly. Updates should not quietly distort a report’s original meaning. Readers can raise concerns using the Contact page.

6. Independence & Conflicts of Interest

Editorial judgments should not be traded for financial or political advantage. Relevant conflicts of interest and sponsored material should be disclosed.

7. Privacy & Public Interest

The publication should take particular care with private information, children and vulnerable people, balancing potential harm against genuine public interest.

8. Sponsored Content

Paid advertisements and sponsored content should be labeled clearly so readers can distinguish commercial messages from independent reporting.
